Leeza Gibbons
She has been called a social entrepreneur, but if you ask Leeza Gibbons what she does, she’ll simply answer “I’m a story teller”. From television news journalist and host to radio personality, producer and businesswoman, Gibbons has been entering America’s living rooms for almost 30 years. She currently hosts and produces the internationally syndicated radio program Hollywood Confidential, but she first burst on the national scene as an anchor and reporter on Entertainment Tonight. It wouldn’t be until hosting her own daytime talk show, Leeza, that audiences would see Gibbons’ determination to get outside the box and become a household name while highlighting her intelligence, sensitivity and compassion. Gibbons has a star on Hollywood’s fabled Walk of Fame, but she will tell you she is most proud of being a mom to “three of the planet’s most amazing kids.” Two of them grew up on the Paramount lot where she served as the host and executive producer of Leeza, which aired from 1994 to 2000 and which garnered 27 Emmy Award nominations. Gibbons went on to become the managing editor and host of the television newsmagazine EXTRA until she left in 2002 to form her nonprofit organization, The Leeza Gibbons Memory Foundation and its signature program, Leeza’s Place. Gibbons and her family, together with co-founder James Huysman, created the Foundation in tribute to Leeza's mother and grandmother, both of whom died of Alzheimer’s disease, and in response to the growing needs of those who suffer from disease and chronic illness and their caregivers. |
